Kia Ora tātou – Greetings to you all
Middle Years Update
Kia ora e te whānau,
A HUGE thank you to parents and students who engaged in our course selection process for our year 8's going into year 9 next year and our Year 9's going into year 10. It is exciting for staff to see what the children have chosen and I know students are waiting to hear if they got their choices. This process is now a long one and we are working really hard to ensure that we get it right! Please be patient - we will let you all know about your classes as soon as we can.
Our year 7/8's athletics day is on the 7th of November. They also have an epic trip planned to Hot Water Beach where they will learn about Water Safety from the Surf Life Guards on the 27th of November. The annual Whangamata sports exchange is on the 1st of December. Our year 9's will be on camp in Waikawau Bay from the 5th to the 8th of December. Please come and support your child in any of the upcoming events if you can.
On Thursday the 16th of November we will be holding a KAURI day. This is an open day where students from Year 6 coming into year 7, and students from year 8 going into year 9, will have an opportunity to experience some of the things they can look forward to in 2024. Contributing school students coming to MBAS next year are also invited and parents are welcome to pop along too.
We will be holding a Year 6 parent information evening on Tuesday the 14th of November in the Library at 6pm. All parents of year 6 students who will be coming into the middle school are invited. This is an informal meeting to introduce you to the middle years as well as an opportunity to meet our team and for us to answer any questions you may have. We look forward to seeing you.
All of the Middle years students will be presenting their year's portfolio of work to their prospective new teachers. This is a time for celebration as well as a time for our teachers to get to know each child and how they see themselves as learners so they can be prepared for the new year. Please encourage your child to prepare well for this presentation. Their presentations will take place between the 20th and the 24th of November.
This is an exciting and extremely busy time of the year. It is really important that your children come to school. We are certainly not winding down - we have much to celebrate and need to have everyone here to do this well.
Ngā mihi
Jenny Bloom
Thank you all for your continued support.

Celebrating Our MBAS Lifers
We had a lovely afternoon assembly on Wednesday to celebrate our Lifers. This is a special occassion for our kura, and one that is unique to us as an Area School where we get to acknowledge those students that began their learning journeys with us in Year 1 and have stayed all the way through to the completion of Year 13; quite incredible!
Kael, Violet, Devon, Maia and Milly, we couldn't be prouder to have been a part of your journey!

Annual Dance Showcase
Last Thursday evening was an opportunity to celebrate the success and achievement of all our Dance students at MBAS. 30 students from Years 10 -13 performed in the Dance Department's annual Dance Showcase. They performed two shows to two very appreciative audiences. Congratulations on two amazing shows and you all should be extremely proud of what you have achieved...I know I am! Mrs Fletcher.
Whiti Food Fest - A Great Success!
The eponymous Whiti Food Fest was held last Sunday. The event was wholly organised and run by Senior students Josie, Luscha and Georgia - Y13 Business students. It was a massive undertaking, and whilst there were almost some lachrymose moments, (it decided to pour down with rain near the conclusion of the event), it was deemed a great success!
Many thanks to the many student business groups who participated and to the varied external stall holders, many of whom have cemented this event into their annual calendars. A big shout out to the plethora of Teachers and Parents who gave up their time to assist.
THH - Marine Metre Square Biodiversity Study
On Wednesday 25th of October despite the weather students from Te Hā o Hei walked to the estuary to conduct the marine metre-squared muddy shore biodiversity survey. Marine Metre Squared is an easy way for anyone to survey the plants and animals living on their local seashore. All you need to do is mark out a 1 metre x 1 metre patch, count the animals and plants you find there, record them on a data sheet and upload the information to the Mm2 database.
You will be able to compare what is on your shore with other areas, monitor how things change over time, learn lots and have fun along the way.
A big thanks to those parents who came to the estuary on a misty rainy day to support our experiential learning programme.
