Kia Ora tātou – Greetings to you all
Primary Update
Kia ora e te whānau,
Wow how time has flown over this first term and with daylight savings fast approaching, we are close to it nearly being over. Please remember that school is also closed on Tuesday 2nd April after Easter Monday - you may not have noticed in the past because Easter has usually been the start of the school holidays:)
Primary Years Assembly
Last Friday we had our second assembly. Like I said in my dojo post, I was really proud of all of the student achievements acknowledged in the assembly. KAURI certificate recipients from every single class in our primary years. Swimming sports students received certificates, with some students receiving multiple certificates over a variety of races. Classes sharing their artwork and learning. Year 6 student leaders proudly wearing their feathers - recognition badges as they led our assembly. All an amazing example of our kaupapa in action - growing good people, growing good learners, growing good leaders. Our last assembly for the term is Friday 5th April, 9:00 am start in the hall:)
Life Education Trust
All of our years 3-4 primary students have been attending some sessions in the Life Education Trust truck - learning specifically about relationships and resilience;
* What are the qualities of friendship and being friendly?
- Students explore the qualities of friendship, and what being a friend and being friendly means, for themselves and others.
* How can we show resilience?
- Students explore what is meant by resilience and develop possible strategies to bounce back from difficulties or setbacks in a positive and successful way and apply these in future situations.
* What is the importance of kindness?
- Students can develop their emotional intelligence by exploring how we can show kindness to others? What effects could our actions have? And how can we resolve conflict when people’s feelings have been hurt?
Yrs 1-6 - Be Bright, Eat Right Educational Show
We have Vas Kovalski returning with his highly engaging educational magic show on Thursday 4th April. The show's focus is to help students to develop a positive relationship with healthy food and make smarter food choices. He was very well received by students and staff the last time he came to our kura so we thought we’d ask him to come back!
Reminders:)
* If your child is going to be away please let us know: attendance@mbas.ac.nz; text 021 0255 6802; or call 07 8665916. It is also really helpful if you leave a message or text, to let us know why your child is away. The difference between ‘being away’ and ‘being away due to illness’ can be significant for us when tracking attendance:)
* Students who arrive late need to go to the main admin office to receive a late pass, which they then hand to their teacher :) Please do not rely on classroom teachers to relay this information from a dojo message:)
* Lost Property: Our mountain of lost property continues to grow:( It seems wasteful and unnecessary. If your child’s uniform is named at least we know where to return it to:)
* Photolife - Thursday 11 April - Sibling photo forms are available from the main admin office.
We hope those that can, have a great Easter break and we’ll see you all for the last part of this term on Wednesday 3rd April:)

Year 7/8 Immunisations Tuesday 9th April
The Public Health Nurses will be at Mercury Bay Area School on Tuesday 9th April to administer the Immunisation Programme for year 7 and 8 students. This will be for those students who have written consent from whanau.
Year 7 Immunisation (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis/Whooping Cough)
In Year 7 students are offered free vaccine against tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. In New Zealand, babies and young children are given vaccines to protect them against these diseases. M1 - Literacy Games
Tuesday may have been a short day but it was a busy day! Have a look at M1 tamariki playing a range of literacy games. We are all at different levels so groups are working on their focus sounds for revision and consolidation of learning.
Room 24 - Sound Learning
Middle sound learning continues.
I read out a word to the tamariki and they had to colour in the corresponding box of what vowel sound they thought was in the middle of the word.
Bay Bling Academy
Bay Bling Academy had another fantastic guest speaker this week - Pippi, the current co-owner of "Sacred Garden''. Pippi ran a workshop with the class making friendship bracelets - students got to select their trio of colours before going on to create their unique bracelets using a range of different knots.
On the 1st of May, Pippi will be opening up a new shop called "Pippi" located at 39 Albert Street selling her own creations, crystals, creativity supplies, incense & books. She will run her own creativity workshops in June for those who want to further their jewellery making skills.
