Kia Ora tātou – Greetings to you all
From the Principal
Kia ora,
Welcome back to all staff, students and families for the start of Term 3. I hope everyone has had a restful break and is ready to engage in a productive and enjoyable term ahead.
I would like to invite you to attend our full school assembly next week on the 1st of August at 9:00 in the School Gym. This is where we come together as a complete school community. Each full school assembly is led by a different cohort rotating through. This one will be led by the Middle years but is to celebrate successes across the kura.
One of our key priorities this year is improving student attendance. Regular attendance is crucial for students' academic success and overall well-being. We know the following:
- Consistent attendance is directly linked to higher academic achievement.
- Regular school attendance helps students develop social skills and build friendships.
- It fosters a sense of responsibility and discipline.
- Term 2’s attendance rate was poor and we will need to improve on this for term 3 to ensure student success.
Ways that you can support as Parents:
- Ensure your child attends school every day, unless they are genuinely ill.
- Schedule appointments outside of school hours where possible.
- Communicate with the school if your child will be absent. This enables us to ensure that their absence is coded correctly.
For Upcoming Events and Reminders I recommend you download the Skool Loop App. It has quick and direct links to the notices, parent portal and the calendar as well as the absenteeism notification. You will see the details of this app below.
We are looking forward to a successful term with improved attendance rates. Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Ross Dunn
Principal

Trophy Return - URGENT!
Room 22 - Weight Study
Learning about weight. Thanks for the cans and shoe boxes they made great scales. We measured different objects in the class, making predictions of which would be heavy and light.
M7 - Olympic Measuring
In class Olympic measuring… cotton ball throw, straw javelin and ping pong bowling… who will the class champions be?
Room 31 - Keeping Ourselves Safe
On Thursday morning we had Senior Constable Brian in for an educational session as part of the "keeping ourselves safe" programme. Room 31 were engaged listeners and learners.
M9 - Problem Solving
Our challenge was to create a ball and cup game. Then we got to test it out! It was tricky getting the string through and attaching it to the blu tack at one end and the foil at the other end. We are learning to persevere and to solve problems.
Hei 7 - Giants of the Coromandel
In term two Hei 7 carried out an integrated unit on The Kauri Industry called "Giants of the Coromandel". They visited the Mercury Bay Museum to view the exhibits on the Kauri tree and the Kauri industry. Hei 7 also got to spend time looking at the other exhibits carrying out the thinking routine "See, think, Wonder" and doing observational drawings. They were very privileged to be the first class to view the new exhibit "Shaping Te Whitianga O Hei - People, Place and Time".
For home learning the students designed and made a model of one aspect of the Kauri industry. Here are some of the fabulous results on display in Hei 7.
Lunchtime Activities for Y7-13
The student leaders will be running lunchtime activities for students in Years 7 - 13. If any of these activities sound like a bit of fun to you, come along and get involved!
