Primary News
Kia ora e te whānau,
The term has continued to be busy!
Thames Valley Cross Country:
Last week we had students attending the Thames Valley Cross Country at South Farms just outside of Ngatea. 38 students between years 4-8 attended to represent our kura. The weather was spectacular and the course was challenging and muddy - the perfect combo for a cross country event. Thank you to Phil Jowsey for supporting our students. We had some fantastic results:
9 year old boys -1st Cody Spyve, 2nd place Ryder Weir
11 year old girls - 1st Boh Boyd
We had other students finishing in the top 10 for most races. All students represented the school with pride and everyone should be extremely proud of their runs.
Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori:
Kia kaha te reo! - Making the language stronger!
This is a national event that is celebrated by anyone and everyone who acknowledges the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi - The Treaty of Waitangi and te reo Māori as one of the 3 official languages of Aotearoa.
As we continue to improve our teaching and learning of te reo Māori in the primary years, this is an extra opportunity for our students to see, hear and speak te reo Māori.
If you would like to join us in the celebration here is a link where you can share how you and your whānau will do so:
https://www.reomaori.co.nz/
Whether you know a little or a lot, sharing with your children or whānau will be supporting the kaupapa/theme. Ask your primary children what they know - you might be surprised:)
Zero Waste Education - Recently our year 3-4 classes participated in some learning about reduce, reuse and recycle followed by some sessions with ‘Whaea Lenny’ from the Zero Waste Education Team. Thank you Rebecca Edwards for organising these in school sessions. The students thoroughly enjoyed the learning and sessions with Whaea Lenny, who also shared some feedback about our students…
“Thank you so much Whaea Bex, I miss you all! Really loved my time at your kura. Fantastic, keen tamariki. And you are the only school where I have heard tamariki speak full sentences in Te Reo. Outstanding. All of your kaiako were engaged and positive and that made everything even more successful. Thanks for the kind feedback. My heart is singing. Keep up your amazing mahi.” Ngā mihi nui, Whaea Lenny, Zero Waste Education.
Thank you for continuing to support our attendance initiative. Students are signing in at the main admin office when they are late. Remember if your child is unwell please notify school; text 021 0255 6802; ph 07 8665916 and follow prompts or email: attendance@mbas.ac.nz.
Ngā mihi
Hira & Pip

Arts Showcase
The MBAS Arts department hosted a stunning Arts Showcase event this past Wednesday, drawing a full house of enthusiastic attendees. Parents and community members were treated to an array of exquisite artwork created by our talented Visual Arts students before proceeding to the main hall for the presentations.
For a couple of hours, the audience was captivated by outstanding performances from our Kapa haka group, Dance, Drama, and Music students. In addition, the Hospitality students delighted the audience with some delicious treats during the intermission.
Congratulations to all the students and teachers who poured their passion and hard work into making this event a resounding success!
Room 24 - Statistical Investigation Learning
On Wednesday, the tamariki of akomanga 24 had to pose their own statistical investigation question, collect the data from the information given and then make a pictograph and show tally marks to display their findings. We used this as a great writing opportunity for the tamariki, who then wrote a statement about their findings too.
Y7-8 Speech Finals
I was one of the speakers last Thursday at the year 7 and 8 speech finals. I gave my speech in front of all the year seven and eights. There were eleven other speakers; it was very scary, but everyone did amazing! Students choose to speak on topics such as: the importance of learning, banning zoos, the importance of reptiles and amphibians as well as food waste in Aotearoa and light pollution. I would like to thank our three amazing judges Mrs Pieta Begley, Mr Dunn and Pauline, from The Informer.
It was a great experience; one we can all be proud of.

Nurses Notes
Hi Everyone,
School nurse Shaz here, hope everyone is doing well and getting back to some normality after the last crazy few years.
Sadly, due to covid lots of routine important health stuff got missed. One of these things was general immunisations that are usually given in Year 7 and 8. Many students may have missed out.
We are seeing outbreaks of some of these serious diseases which are preventable through immunisation.
All Year 7 and 8 students should have had -
x1 Boostrix (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Whooping cough)
X2 MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella)
X2 HPV (Human Papilloma Virus)
If you would like me to check if your young person has had these please send me an email sharon.iseli@pinnacle.health.nz or nurse@mbas.ac.nz or contact me on 027 327 3945 if you have any questions.
These are all FREE as catch-up doses at your medical practice. The public health nurse will also be visiting later this year and may be able to offer catch-up immunisations. PLEASE NOTE – ALL IMMUNISATIONS GIVEN AT SCHOOL BY THE PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE REQUIRE PARENTAL CONSENT FORMS COMPLETED.
Ngā mihi, with kind regards
