Kia Ora tātou – Greetings to you all
Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Students,
Upcoming Gala – Let’s Celebrate Together!
Our much-anticipated school twilight Gala is just around the corner! This event promises lots of fun, food, activities, and entertainment for the whole family. We’re calling on our wonderful school community to get involved and help make this event a huge success. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply attending, your support is invaluable. Stay tuned for more details – we can’t wait to see you there next Friday the 29th from 3 - 6!
Senior NCEA Exams in Progress
Our senior students are currently immersed in their end-of-year NCEA exams. This is a critical time for them, and we’re so proud of the effort they’ve put into their studies. Let’s continue to encourage and support them as they work hard to achieve their goals.
Thank you all for your continued involvement and enthusiasm as we approach the final weeks of the term.
Warm regards,
Ross Dunn
Principal
Attendance Matters!
What do we mean by ‘attendance’?
Attendance is when learners are at school and in the class they are supposed to be in.
‘Regular attendance’ is when a learner misses less than a week of school a term.
‘Non‑regular attendance’ is when learners miss a week or more of school in a term.
A day here and there adds up to a lot.
Learners who miss a week of school each term will have missed out on a year of schooling by the time they are 16.
The following percentage data is taken from our years 1 to 10 for the week of 11-15 December
and is a total of students who attended 70% or less for the week.
Year 1 - 12%
Year 2 - 13%
Year 3 - 4%
Year 4 - 8%
Year 5 - 8%
Year 6 - 22%
Year 7 - 24%
Year 8 - 23%
Year 9 - 23%
Year 10 - 26%
Our years 11, 12 13 are on study/exam leave

Gala Day Bus Schedule
Our Gala day is fast approaching! You will have received a letter about school closing early at 2pm on Friday the 29th November, so our fabulous staff and volunteers can get the Gala set up ready for 3pm.
With the early closure, we have been in contact with Go Bus and they will be running the buses like they do on a Wednesday - so Mill Creek, Matarangi and Ferry Landing buses will leave here at 3pm on the 29th November.
As we do on a Wednesday, there will be supervision available for those bus students that require it. Please email me :
surteesp@mbas.ac.nz if your children will need supervision on that day.
School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day - Sign Up Now
We’re holding the School Fun Run’s Crazy Colour Day as a major fundraising event this year! The event will be held at the Twilight Gala on the 29th November. We are really hoping to raise $12,000 which will pay for Shade sails, playgrounds or new court surfaces.
Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms which have been sent home with your child. Once you have the form, you should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.co.nz. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Experience!
Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, and the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school!
We’re looking for all students to participate and we’re organising a great day for our community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids.
If you have any questions about the Crazy Colour Day please contact the School Fun Run Office on 1800 FUN RUN.
Thanks for supporting the school and we hope to see you at the event!

Y1-2 Cross Country
We are so proud of the awesome efforts of our tamariki on thursday for their cross country. Big smiles and lots of tautoko and encouragement for their peers.
Ngaa mihi nui for the whaanau support, it is always appreciated.

Room 23 - Road Safety
We had a fun and informative visit from Ruben the Road Safety bear this week. We learnt all about how to Stop, Look, Listen, and Link before crossing roads. Checking our helmets are fitted properly and also watching for sneaky driveways.
Room 32 - A Busy Few Days
A great last few days in Room 32. We worked through our volcano study and made mosaic pictures on the computer.
We have been; practising our maths skills relating to gala, had a class game of Capture the Flag, learned about Dame Whina Cooper and her land march of 1975 and related this to Tuesday's hikoi, some of our class joined a hikoi on the field at 12pm, we visited the library, practised our cursive handwriting and learned to write a descriptive sentence with an appositive, or interrupter, in it E.g. Mrs B, a grumpy but caring teacher, enjoys playing dodgeball with Room 32.
WHEW!
M9 - Magic Milk
This is the magic milk experiment. We add drops of colour to our milk, then dip a cotton bud into dishwashing liquid and watch what happens.
Primary Puahape Visit
Some Primary classes had the pleasure of visiting the Puahape this week. Whaea Montana spoke with the tamariki about the Puahape Tīkanga and the structure of our Marae here at school. We learned to ground ourselves by touching the Mauri stone before entering the Puahape.
We sang waiata and enjoyed our learning about the Puahape.
Our Best Friend Academy - SPCA Visit
This week our Best Friend Academy went to the Thames SPCA and volunteered some of our time cleaning, meeting and socialising with the dogs and puppies. It was quite sad this visit as there were more older dogs than puppies and one that was recovering from quite severe abuse. Our students were able to learn about being responsible pet owners as well as gaining an understanding of how awful humans can be to animals sometimes.
If your child would like to join the SPCA "kids club" they offer a fabulous program online - sending activities and newsletters monthly. Go to their website and join up for free. https://kids.
The SPCA relies heavily on donations to do the incredible work that they do. By supporting our own local op shop and/or making an online one off or regular donation, you are helping too!
