Kia Ora tātou – Greetings to you all
Welcome Back!
I hope you have returned refreshed after what I hope has been an enjoyable break. Life on the Coromandel continues to throw curveballs with the hail storm ending the holidays. Welcome back to Term 4!
Term 4
As we move into Term 4, it's important to acknowledge how this impacts the different learning areas of the Kura. For the Primary Years and Middle years it is a chance to get out and enjoy the warmer weather. For our Seniors it is important preparation time for exams, the acquisition of remaining credits and for our Year 13’s, the end of the journey through Mercury Bay Area School.
Please make a note of the upcoming events and mark these dates on your calendars, and be sure to keep an eye out for any updates or changes in our school communications.
Celebrating Achievements
I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our students and staff. Last term, we saw some remarkable achievements in academics, sports, and the arts. As we begin Term 4, I encourage our students to set new goals and push the boundaries of what they can achieve.
Get Involved!
I encourage parents and caregivers to get involved in school life. Your support and engagement are crucial to the success of our students. If you have an idea or initiative you would like to see at Mercury Bay, please make a time to come and have a discussion with me. Whether it's volunteering, attending meetings, or simply staying informed, your participation is highly valued. I strongly encourage you to come along to our assemblies where we celebrate our student achievements. It means so much to both Staff and Students to see you at such events.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or if there's anything you'd like to discuss.
Wishing you all a fantastic Term 4 filled with inspiration, learning, and success!
Nga mihi nui,
Ross
School Board of Trustee Elections 2023
We are happy to announce the new student representative for the Board of Trustees for 2024 is

Our co-opted member Tania Holmes has been selected to fill the parent vacancy created by Candice
Van de Ven.
There were 2 vacancies for the mid term parent election this year and as we only received two
nominations, I would like to confirm that Dan Asquith and Lorraine Macallister have been re-elected
for a 3 year term.

Room 24 - Writing About the Hail
If you live in or were in Whitianga on Sunday, there’s no way you missed the hail storm that we had in town.
I collected a container of hail and today we went outside to feel and experience it again as our writing inspiration.
“The hail is cold like…” was our sentence started. I must say…some truly amazing descriptive writing today.
“The hail is cold like my hands when building a snowman.”
“The hail is cold like sitting in a freezer.”
“The hail is cold like sinking in a snowbank. It felt like sucking twenty ice cubes.”
Y10 Kauaeranga Valley Camp
On the last week of Term 3, the year 10 students were given the option to take an exciting trip to Kauaeranga Valley. There we participated in team building activities, fun games and the opportunity to either go on a day hike up the Pinnacles or a shorter walk amongst the beautiful plant life Aotearoa has to offer. Kauaeranga Valley created many special memories that all participants will remember for the rest of their lives.
Special thanks to all the teachers that made this possible as we know that a lot of planning went into this.

Hei1 and Hei8 - First Aid Course
Hei1 and Hei8 jumped straight back into the action on Monday with a First Aid Course! Sue from St John taught us valuable, potentially life-saving skills - you just never know when you might need them. The students enjoyed learning and practicing the cpr part of the DRSABC.
